Extract ZIP File
Open an archive to see its content, then download single files or extract everything at once, keeping the folders. Garbled names can be fixed by choosing the right encoding.
- Choose the archive
- Select the files you need
- Extract or download them
Your files never leave your device
Supported archives
- ZIP (also JAR, EPUB and Office files such as DOCX and XLSX, which are ZIP inside).
- TAR, TAR.GZ / TGZ and single GZ files.
- RAR and 7Z are not supported; convert them with a desktop app first.
Two ways to extract
- Save into a folder (Chrome and Edge on a computer): pick a folder and every file is written there with its subfolders.
- Download files: each selected file is downloaded on its own — fine for a few files and works in every browser.
- Use the button in each row to download just one file.
Fixing strange file names
Old ZIP programs saved names in a local code page instead of UTF-8, so Arabic, Russian, Japanese or Chinese names can look like random symbols. Choose the matching encoding (for example windows-1256 for Arabic, windows-1251 for Cyrillic, shift_jis for Japanese, gbk for Chinese, cp437 for old DOS archives) and the list is read again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I open password-protected ZIP files?
No. Encrypted archives are detected and you get a clear message, but they cannot be opened here.
Why do some file names look broken?
The archive was made with an old program that did not use UTF-8. Pick the right encoding in the list and the names are fixed.
Can I extract only some files?
Yes. Untick the files you do not need, or download single files with the button in each row.
Is the archive uploaded?
No. It is opened on your device; nothing is sent anywhere.
Does it support RAR or 7Z?
Not yet. ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TGZ and GZ are supported.
My browser asks to allow multiple downloads — is that normal?
Yes. When you download several files one by one, browsers ask once for permission. Saving into a folder (Chrome / Edge) avoids this.
