Bulk File Rename
Choose a folder or files and rename them all in one step: add numbers and dates, replace words, change upper/lower case or apply new names from an Excel list, with a preview before anything changes.
- Choose the folder or files
- Pick a rule: pattern, find & replace or list
- Rename in place or download the renamed copies
Your files never leave your device
Three ways to rename
- Pattern: build the new name with {name} (old name), {n} (number), 2026-10-12 (file date), {folder} and {ext}, such as “Trip {n}” → Trip 001, Trip 002…
- Find & replace: change or remove a word in every name; regular expressions are available for advanced cases.
- List: an Excel or CSV sheet with old names in one column and new names in the other.
- Upper case, lower case or Title Case can be applied on top of any rule.
Preview, conflicts and undo
The table shows every old and new name before anything happens. Two files that would get the same name are numbered automatically. After renaming in place you can undo the whole operation in one click and download a log with every old and new name.
In place or as copies
In Chrome and Edge on a computer, choose the folder with “Choose folder” and the files are renamed directly in it. In every browser you can download the renamed copies as a ZIP; your original files stay as they are.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Renaming happens in your browser on your device, and the files never leave it.
Can I undo a rename?
Yes. After renaming in place, “Undo” restores all the old names, and the CSV log keeps a record of every change.
Does the file extension change?
Not unless you want it to. Keep “Keep the extension” on so .jpg stays .jpg.
How do I number photos by date?
Use the pattern tab, write for example “Holiday {n}” and sort by date.
Can I use names from Excel?
Yes. Use the list tab: one column with the current names (with or without extension) and one with the new names.
Why can't I rename in place in my browser?
Writing into a folder needs the File System Access feature of Chrome and Edge on computers. Other browsers download a ZIP with the renamed copies.
