What is OCR?
OCR (optical character recognition) reads the letters in an image and turns them into real text that you can copy, edit and search. It works with photos of documents, screenshots, scanned PDFs, receipts and book pages.
Tips for the best results
- Use a sharp, well-lit image where the text is straight and large enough.
- Choose the correct language; for mixed documents keep "Also recognize English" switched on.
- Crop away everything that is not text, such as photos and table borders.
- Printed text gives much better results than handwriting.
Private by design
Kingdom of Files runs the recognition engine on your device. The first time you use a language, its data (a few megabytes) is downloaded and then kept by your browser. Your images and documents are never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Which languages are supported?
25 languages, including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Persian, Urdu and Russian.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
Yes. Each page (up to 50) is turned into an image and recognized one after another.
Does it recognize handwriting?
Clear printed text works best. Neat handwriting is sometimes recognized, but results vary.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The text is recognized in your browser; only the language data is downloaded once.
Why are there mistakes in the text?
Blurry, small or tilted text and the wrong language cause errors. Try a sharper image and check the language.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no daily page limit.
