What is a Unix timestamp?
A Unix timestamp (epoch time) is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC. Programs, databases and APIs use it because it is the same everywhere, whatever the time zone.
Seconds, milliseconds or microseconds
- 10 digits: seconds (Unix, PHP, Python).
- 13 digits: milliseconds (JavaScript, Java).
- 16 digits: microseconds.
- The tool detects the unit automatically, or you can choose it.
Time zones
Results are shown in your device's time zone and in UTC, plus ISO 8601 format and relative time such as "3 days ago". When converting a date, you can treat it as UTC. Kingdom of Files calculates everything on your device.
