Compare Excel Files
Open the old and the new version of a sheet and see exactly what changed: new rows, deleted rows and every edited cell, with the old and the new value side by side.
- Open the old file and the new file
- Choose how rows are matched (key column or position)
- Review the changes and download the report
Your files never leave your device
Matched by key or by position
With a key column such as an ID, product code or e-mail, rows are matched even if they were sorted differently, and you see true additions and deletions. Without a key, row 1 is compared with row 1, row 2 with row 2, and so on.
What the report shows
- Added: rows that exist only in the new file.
- Removed: rows that exist only in the old file.
- Changed: for every row, which column changed, with the old and the new value.
- Columns are matched by header name, so a moved column is not reported as a change.
Fewer false alarms
Ignore differences in capital letters and extra spaces if they do not matter to you. Values are compared as they are displayed in the sheet, so 1,000 and 1000 formatted the same way count as equal.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both files are read and compared in your browser and never leave your device.
Can I compare a CSV with an Excel file?
Yes. Any combination of XLSX, XLS, XLSM, XLSB, ODS and CSV works.
What if the files have different columns?
When both have header rows, columns are matched by name; a column that exists in only one file shows its values as changed from or to empty.
Which key column should I use?
Any column whose values are unique per row: an ID, an invoice number, an e-mail address or a product code.
Can it compare sheets with different row orders?
Yes, with a key column the order does not matter.
What does the Excel report contain?
Three sheets: Added, Removed and Changed (key, row numbers, column, old value, new value).
