What makes a password strong?
Strength comes mainly from length and randomness. A random 16-character password with letters, numbers and symbols would take attackers far longer to guess than a short or predictable one.
- Use at least 12–16 characters; 20 or more for very important accounts.
- Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- Never reuse the same password on different sites.
- Avoid names, dates and dictionary words.
How this generator works
- Characters are picked with the Web Crypto random generator, without modulo bias.
- Every character type you select is guaranteed to appear at least once.
- The strength meter shows the estimated entropy in bits.
- Passwords are created on your device and are never stored or sent.
Tips for managing passwords
- Save passwords in a trusted password manager instead of a note or a file.
- Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
- Change a password immediately if a site reports a data breach.
Frequently asked questions
Are the passwords really random?
Yes. They are created with your device's cryptographic random generator (Web Crypto), the same source used for encryption keys.
Are my passwords saved or sent anywhere?
No. They are generated on your device and disappear when you close the page.
How long should a password be?
At least 12–16 characters for important accounts. Longer passwords with mixed character types are much harder to crack.
What does "exclude similar characters" do?
It removes characters that are easy to confuse, such as 0 and O or 1, l and I, which helps when you must type the password by hand.
What does the strength meter measure?
It estimates entropy in bits from the length and the number of possible characters. 60 bits or more is strong; 90 or more is very strong.
Can I create several passwords at once?
Yes. Choose 5, 10 or 20 and copy them one by one or all together.
