When to extract audio from a video
- Listen to lectures, lessons and talks without watching the screen.
- Turn a recorded meeting or interview into an audio file for transcription.
- Keep the music or voice from your own videos.
- Save space: audio files are much smaller than videos.
Formats and quality
- MP3: plays on every device; the most compatible choice.
- M4A (AAC): slightly better quality than MP3 at the same size, ideal for Apple devices.
- WAV: uncompressed, for editing in audio software; large files.
- 128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps for most music, 320 kbps for the highest quality.
How it works
File Kingdom reads the audio track from your video and encodes it in your browser with ffmpeg. The media engine (about 32 MB) downloads once the first time. Your videos never leave your device, and you can convert several at once.
Good to know
- Only convert videos you own or have permission to use.
- To keep just part of the audio, use Trim Audio afterwards.
