Color formats explained
- HEX: the six-digit code used in web design and CSS (#14183d).
- RGB: red, green and blue values from 0 to 255, used on screens.
- HSL and HSV: hue, saturation and lightness or value — easy to adjust by hand.
- CMYK: cyan, magenta, yellow and black percentages used in printing.
Building a palette
- Complementary colors sit opposite each other and give strong contrast.
- Analogous colors sit side by side and feel calm and harmonious.
- Triadic colors are evenly spaced and give a balanced, lively look.
- Click any swatch to make it the current color and copy its codes.
Readable text (WCAG)
Choose text and background colors and the tool calculates the contrast ratio. Aim for at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large headings (level AA); 7:1 meets the stricter AAA level.
Frequently asked questions
Which color codes can I enter?
HEX (#1e90ff or 1e90ff), rgb(), hsl(), hsv(), cmyk() and CSS color names such as navy or tomato.
How do I get a color from a photo or logo?
Open the image in the "Pick from an image" section and click any point on it. The image stays on your device.
Is the CMYK value exact for printing?
It is a standard mathematical conversion. Real print colors depend on the printer's color profile, so check important jobs with your print shop.
What is a contrast ratio?
It measures how readable text is on a background. WCAG requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (AA).
How are the palettes created?
By rotating the hue on the color wheel: complementary (180°), analogous (±30°) and triadic (120°), plus lighter and darker shades.
Can I pick a color from anywhere on my screen?
Yes, in browsers that support it (such as Chrome and Edge on computers) a "Pick from screen" button appears.
