Split Excel

Open a spreadsheet and split it in one step: a separate part for every value of a column, such as each branch or salesperson, or fixed blocks of rows. Every part keeps the header row.

  1. Open your Excel or CSV file
  2. Choose split by column value or by number of rows
  3. Download one workbook or a ZIP of files

Two ways to split

Choose the output

Get one workbook with a sheet for every part, which is handy for review, or separate XLSX or CSV files in a ZIP, ready to send each part to the right person. Sheet and file names come from the column values.

Typical uses

Send each sales rep only their own customers, give each branch its own stock list, split a large export into files a system can import, or prepare one file per class or per month.

Frequently asked questions

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. The file is read and split in your browser and never leaves your device.

Does each part keep the header?

Yes, when “The first row contains column names” is on, the header row is copied into every part.

What happens to empty cells in the split column?

Rows with an empty value are put together in one part named “(empty)”.

Are values with different capitals treated as one?

Yes. “Paris” and “PARIS” go into the same part.

Which files can I open?

XLSX, XLS, XLSM, XLSB, ODS and CSV.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit; very large sheets (hundreds of thousands of rows) need more memory and time on your device.
