How tables are found

The tool reads the text layer of the PDF with the position of every word. Words on the same line are grouped into rows, words close together become one cell, and columns are found from the gaps that run down the page. This works for left-, right- and centre-aligned columns and for tables without lines.

Scanned PDFs

A scanned PDF is only a picture of the page and has no text to read. Run it through OCR PDF first to add a text layer, then extract the tables here.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is read in your browser and never leaves your device, which matters for bank statements and invoices.

Why is the result empty?

The PDF is probably scanned. Make it searchable with OCR PDF first.

Some columns are merged or split. What can I do?

Tables with very irregular spacing can confuse column detection. Try one sheet per page and fix the few cells in Excel.

Are numbers real numbers in Excel?

Yes, when “Convert numbers” is on, so you can sum and sort them. Turn it off to keep everything as text.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF if you know it.

Can I get CSV instead?

Yes. CSV puts all selected pages in one file, encoded as UTF-8 for Excel.
