Compare Two Folders
Check a backup, a copy on a USB drive or two versions of a project. Choose folder A (original) and folder B (copy) and see every file that differs — nothing is uploaded.
- Choose folder A and folder B
- Pick content or date comparison
- See the differences and download the report
Your files never leave your device
What you get
- Changed: the same file name in both folders, but different content.
- Only in A / only in B: files missing on one side.
- Moved or renamed: identical content under a different path (content mode).
- Same: identical files, hidden by default.
Choosing the comparison
- By content (SHA-256) is exact: it reads every file with the same size. Best for backups.
- By size and date is instant: good for large folders when dates were kept when copying.
- Match by file name only when subfolders were reorganised.
After comparing
Download an Excel report of all files with sizes and dates, or a ZIP with the new and changed files from folder B — ready to copy over folder A to bring it up to date.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Both folders are read and compared in your browser.
How large can the folders be?
Thousands of files work fine. Content mode reads files with the same size on both sides, so very large folders take longer.
Does it change or delete anything?
No. It only reads the folders; you decide what to do with the report or the ZIP.
What does “moved or renamed” mean?
A file that only exists on one side under its path, but whose exact content exists on the other side under another path.
Why are files with the same date shown as changed?
In content mode, the contents differ even if the date is the same. Choose content mode for an exact answer.
Are hidden system files ignored?
Yes, by default (Thumbs.db, .DS_Store and similar). Untick the option to include them.
