Every calendar of your browser
Dates are converted with the calendar data built into modern browsers: Islamic (Umm al-Qura, tabular and astronomical), Persian (Solar Hijri), Hebrew, Buddhist, Indian national, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Minguo, Coptic and Ethiopic. Calendar names appear in your language.
Real dates and dates typed as text
- Cells formatted as dates in Excel are always read as Gregorian dates, even if they are displayed in another format.
- Dates typed as text (for example 1447/09/01) are read in the calendar you choose under “Dates written as text are in”.
- Choose the day / month / year order if your text dates are ambiguous.
- Days that do not exist, such as 30 Safar, are left empty and counted as not recognized.
Choose how the result looks
The numeric style (year/month/day with 0–9 digits) is easy to sort and filter. The long and full styles write the month name, and the full style adds the weekday, in the language you choose. The rest of your sheet is kept as it is.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert Hijri dates to Gregorian?
Yes. Set “Dates written as text are in” to the Hijri calendar and the target calendar to Gregorian.
Which Hijri calendar is used?
You can choose Umm al-Qura (official in Saudi Arabia), the tabular (civil) Islamic calendar or the astronomical one. They can differ by a day.
Is the original column changed?
Only if you choose so. By default the result goes into a new column next to the original.
Which files can I open?
XLSX, XLS, XLSM, XLSB, ODS and CSV. CSV files are saved as CSV, the others as XLSX.
Why are some cells empty in the result?
Their content was not recognized as a date, or the date does not exist in the source calendar. The preview shows how many.
Is my spreadsheet uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser and never leaves your device.
